The Alumni City Beginning

There comes a time in most peoples’ life when you reminisce about the days when there wasn’t a care in the world, your school days. The hardest obstacle to overcome then was to keep that pimple on your nose from being noticed by your friends. The days of Friday night football, biology class, lunchtime, or marching band seem so long ago. You realize now that life then was better than you realized. Today, you work hard, try to make a decent living, support your family. You come across payday Friday only to realize that you are out of money that following Monday. The memories really set in, the good and the bad. Then you start thinking about all the friends you had, and wonder what has become of all of them.

Reconnecting with your high school buddies has always been a daunting task. The world is a big place, where do you begin searching? Luckily, the Internet has made the world a little smaller with search engines, online shopping, music, news…the list goes on and on. Even the ability to reconnect with your long, lost friends has become web based. The concept is great, but the method to do so is cumbersome and unattractive. All of the commercial websites tease you by letting you register for free, but from there you can’t access all of the features unless you become a premier member. You can’t even get access to anyone’s email address unless you are a premier member.

This practice really disgusted me, especially when only a small percentage of the people actually paid for the membership. I thought it was time to make a change, time to redefine the online alumni reunion experience. Luckily, I had the artillery to make a difference. I have been programming since 1999, I have a computer programming degree from West Virginia State College. I took my skills and created a whole new monster: an alumni website, exclusively for my school, free to the alumni. The cost of the site and maintaining it is driven by two factors: 1) I was willing to pay for it out of my own pocket, and 2) I included the ability to send donations to absorb the cost.

Needless to say, I have not had to pay a dime for the web site. People have made it a part of their lives and are willing to sacrifice $10 or $15 a year to keep the site up. Though not everyone donates, the costs are still covered by those that do, and I am still willing to pay for it out of my own pocket. My contribution: Hundreds of programming hours to make a site that is not only functional, but full of reasons to visit often.

Now I want to make this wonderful new concept available to you. I will work directly with the alumni association or high school to keep the pride of the school alive, not only with their current student body, but with the alumni as well.

I hope that you decide to use my product. Using my alma mater as a test market has given me hard evidence that this concept works. Give me a call or email today if you are interested in purchasing a site for your school. Get back in touch, and get back in touch for free.

Working towards the ultimate online reunion,

Alex Kail, Alumni City President
