Alumni Website Features
Real Time Message Board
The message board is the number one reason traffic to our sites are so great. People
tend to flock to discussion groups to tell everyone about their new baby, weddings,
local news, world news, school related news, anything you can imagine. Posting messages
has never been easier. Simply click "New Post", enter your subject and message, click
"Submit" and you're done. The message board lists threads in chronogical order, 50 at a time,
starting with the most recent post to a a thread, making navigation a snap. Replying within
a thread is even easier. While reading the messages, you can scroll to the bottom and add
your reply, click "Submit" and that's it. You can bold, italic, and underline text in your
messages as well using our easy-to-use toolbar. Add a little smile to your message with our
smiley selection button which adds smiley HTML to your message at your current cursor location.
Instant Messenger
Our alumni website has an onboard Instant Messenger system. Best of all, there is no
software to install, it is all web based. By clicking the name of the person online, you
are instantly taken to a private chat room. The Instant Messenger also has embedded smiley
capabilities to add flare to your discussion.
Photo Albums
Upload yearbooks, new baby pictures, reunion pictures, the possibilites are endless with
our photo album piece. To add a photo album, enter the title and the number of pictures to upload
and the website will step you through uploading your pictures and adding picture titles.
Once uploading is complete, you are automatically redirected to your completed photo album. Oops!
Did you enter a wrong title in a picture or found a typo? No problem, you can modify your photo
albums, too. You can also delete pictures and add more pictures, all with the click of a mouse.
Viewing photo albums is very intuitive, with pagination and one click enlarged picture viewer.
Your Own Domain Name
Your schools alumni website has their very own signature on the world wide web, such as
www.SpringfieldHighAlumni.com or www.GWAlumni.net. By purchasing our website, your domain name will
be automatically listed in our master directory for free. So someone can log on to AlumniCity.com
and search for your school, drawing even more of your alumni to your site. Domain registration and
maintenance is administered by AlumniCity to take the worry and complexity away. If you already have an
alumni website, you can still opt to have your domain listed on our master directory for $20 a year.
Reunion Planner
Reunion planning is an overwhelming task. From setting up the venue to getting the word out. Most
of the time finding people is impossible. Luckily, we have created a reunion planner which includes
information such as venue, date, time, coordinator, who registered on the site is attending, and a list
of who you are just having trouble finding. By adding lost alumni, those that are already registered
can post any contact information for that person which will hopefully get you in contact with them so
they can attend. If you are the coordinator, you can maintain a list of people who have paid the cover
charge, if applicable, and how much is due, based on the number of guests they will be bringing.
Featured Profiles
Every month, the website will create a new featured profile on the home page. This profile is created
for profiles that have submitted a current picture. This is another attention getter since the content
changes monthly. It provides the picture, name, graduation year, and a link to their profile.
Message System
Our message system promotes our concern for your online privacy. We do not display member email
addresses on our sites. Instead, we have implemented a way for members to get in contact with each other
though our message system. The message system works much like a typical email system, in that you go to
the members profile, click "Send a Message", which directs you to the message entry page, where you enter
your subject and message. Click "Submit" and a message will be sent to that person in the email that
they registered with telling them about the message sent by you on your site. Your email address is not
displayed to the recipiant, either. The only way an email address can get to another member is if you
provide it in your message sent from the site. This is an effort to keep your email private while
benefitting from the features that come with our alumni websites.
In Memory Of...
Doesn't it always surprise you when you find out someone from your school that you knew then has
passed away? We have added a page to our alumni website which informs you of alumni no longer here and lists
their birthdate and their date of passing. If you are the moderator of the site and someone registered has
passed away, you can move their profiles to the "In Memory Of..." page with a single mouse click.
Birthdays This Week List
Our websites list the birthdays for the current week beginning on Sunday and ending on Saturday. Just
a nice little way to remind others that you have gotten another year older. This information is displayed
on the home page which is linked to your profile.
Polls
The moderator of your site can add polls, which display just under the latest registratns section of
the left side of each screen. These polls can be questions or opinions of just about anything. It is also
real attention getter. After you submit your answer, the results are displayed until the poll closes and
next one opens.
Custom Colors
When you purchase our alumni websites, we will customize the color scheme to match your school colors.
This make the site unique to your school. The color scheme is implemented in the menu bar on the top of each
screen, the results chart for the polls, lists (such as message board thread lists, alumni lists, etc). The
color scheme is the most unique aspect of our sites and really displays your schools pride.
Related Links Page
This page is a listing of websites that are affiliated or related to the schools area, such as the schools
website, website for the city/town in which your school resides, members business websites, etc.
Member Search Engine
Once the website gets populate with several hundred or several thousand members, finding the member is
easier with our search engine. You can enter the members email, first name, last name, or graduation year and
if they are registered, the search engine will find them. You can enter partial names, as well. For example,
entering "Smi" in the last name field will return those with the last name or maiden name "Smith", "Smithers", etc.
Partial name is also supported in the email field.
Forgot Email/Password Functions
If someone forgets their email or password, our websites have the functionality to retrieve that information
for the user by going through a security check. When you register, you must select a predefined security
question that only you know, and supply the answer. When you retrieve your email/password, you are asked the
question. Supplying the correct answer will get your information back to you.
Website Moderators
Your website should have a moderator, who keeps an eye out for those that do not abide by the rules stated in
the terms of use, which includes registering as nobody (John Doe). The moderator will also keep watch on the message
board and pictures posted to photo albums. The moderator reserves the right to ban members, delete message board
entries, deleting photo albums or pictures within a photo album, etc. This is an effort to make your alumni website
experience as pleasant as it should be.
Website Subscription Costs and Donating
Unfortunately, nothing in life is free, and your alumni website is no exception to that rule. Hosting costs,
hosting fees, and general adminsitration are all part of having a website. But, we have
implemented a way for the website to be funded by it's members via donations. Donations can be sent to AlumniCity
through PayPal, or you can send a donation with a check or money order with the donation form available on your
alumni website so your schools yearly subscription fees will receive credit for that donation. Typically, the yearly
subscription costs equal the amount of 19 member subscriptions seen on most commercial alumni websites. Obviously,
this cost is much less and is secluded to each schools website, not each member within.
After Purchasing an Alumni Website
Typically the series of events that take place when purchasing your schools alumni website are: First, you
select what website package you desire, enter your contact information and school colors, mascot, desired domain names,
etc. Once payment has rendered, the ball is in AlumniCitys' court. We take your information, apply your colors, and
place the website on a temporary URL for your approval. Once approved, our team will get the site fully hosted with
the best domain name available, and the transaction is complete. Usually your school will have a fully accessible alumni
website in 1-2 business days, depending on volume and response time on your sites approval.
Custom School Logo
After your website comes online, you can request to have your schools logo placed on the site in lieu of the standard
graduation cap logo on the top left hand section of each webpage. This service is no charge to you or the site and adds
even more uniqueness to your alumni website. Simply email AlumniCity with the logo image attached and we will apply it
to your alumni website.
Website Upgrades
As new ideas and changes are made to our sites, your will always be upgraded to the latest version as we deliver them.
Our upgrade process streamlines upgrades so that your website does not experience any downtime. These upgrades are always
free, it is simply an effort to keep you and your alumni website members happy and always coming back.
